What are Open Independent Adoptions?
An open adoption can be described on a scale of one to ten. One being that the birth mother wants no contact with the adoptive couples after the birthing process and does not wish to receive pictures or letters about the child even through a third party. Ten being that the adoptive couple and birth mother agrees to interact throughout the child's life which may include pictures, letters, visitations, phone calls or all of the above on a regular basis. Open adoption simply means that all disclosures of addresses are known to each party. Independent simply means that we are "independent" of a State license. None is needed. California Facilitation laws require that we have a business license and be bonded. Nearly 80% of all California adoptions are done by the independent method. Remember, this is where the birth mothers choose the adoptive couple. She alone decides where to place her baby. The adoptive couples are first selected by the birth mother. A good match is when both the birth mother and the adoptive couples mutually agree on an adoption placement. I personally feel that the "match" is the most important part of an adoption..
There are other ways to adopt such as, International, Open-Independent as we discussed, Agency, and Identified. An identified adoption can combine selected methods from open-independent and agency. There are several draw backs to this method, the main one being the extra cost. LET ME ANSWER ALL YOUR QUESTIONS. (916) 362-2300.
